Wearing my armour over clothes
20220122 16:10-19:14
I wore my underwear on the outside and traveled from Zhongshan to the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Yuanshan, partly on foot and partly by MRT. After viewing an exhibition, I returned to Zhongshan and walked home.
From my perspective, I mostly felt people staring. Some looked directly at me as they approached; others turned back for a second glance after passing. No one came forward to speak or act. Men tended to notice me sooner, while women reacted more visibly—by frowning or widening their eyes.
From my helper’s perspective:
At TFAM (Taipei Fine Arts Museum)
Two married couples and two pairs of same-gender friends whispered and pointed.
Among the couples, it was always the man who noticed first, followed by the woman secretly taking a photo.
The staff stared but did nothing. One unfriendly-looking woman nearly approached, but as she reached out, I turned around. She quickly pretended nothing had happened and stepped back.
A woman in leather boots calmly raised her phone and snapped a photo.
A man in glasses stared for a long time, only looking away when he realized I had noticed.
Solo visitors looked confused, one after another.
At Taipei MRT
On the train, an older man in a floral shirt gave me an unsettling stare while rubbing a water bottle between his legs in a deliberately suggestive way.
At the station, a police officer followed me closely from the ticket gate, up the escalator, and out.
At Eslite Nanjing
A man pointed at me and said to his girlfriend, “Look at her—why is she wearing her underwear like that?!”
